Employers and stakeholders in the technical sector will, despite Corona, continue to face challenges in the coming years. Enthusing, educating, training and recruiting existing and new staff, among others, will become an important task. In addition to this challenge, new digital techniques are becoming available in technology that will change work, such as augmented reality. This disruption will also have a direct impact on the retention of current employees. The challenges for the coming years are therefore to make young people enthusiastic about technology and to take the current staff along and prepare them for the new techniques.
In order to meet this complex challenge, ProfCore, Perfact Group, Soapbox Youth Marketing and Meet the Youngsters have joined forces in the project It’s a Serious Game, which uses serious gaming to enthuse the young generation within education for the new technical professions and to educate and train their own employees. It’s a Serious Game consists of a mobile escape room, 3D films of technical workplaces and a mini living lab (mini cooling factory) with sensors in a physical and virtual variant. On the website www.meettheyoungsters.nl/seriousgame you can find more information and apply for the resources.
The launch of It’s a Serious Game went super. The pupils of the first secondary school, Sint-Maartenscollege in Maastricht, were all enthusiastic. The majority of the students said they learned “a lot in a fun game-like way” and wondered when we would visit again.
Not only the students, but also the teachers were very enthusiastic about the various parts of the project. “The pupils were very enthusiastic and found it super to learn in this way” is something we heard a lot!
